Message Notes 01-23-05
Vision 2005
We see thousands of people in the Greater San Marcos
area, from all walks and stages in life, from every culture, finding new lives
in Christ!
We see a church that is diverse and growing, yet still
a family
We see a church where people are learning to worship
God in a real & meaningful way
We see a church where God’s Word is seen not as just
information, but as a Life Manual being taught and applied in practical ways.
We see a church that starts many other new churches in
Texas and around the globe.
We see a church that
adopts an unreached people group somewhere on the
planet and does everything it can to help those people become followers of
Christ.
Our Purpose… Fellowship of San Marcos EXISTS to help people experience
a real relationship with Christ
I. Reaching Up
Matthew 22:36-38 “Teacher, which
is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all
your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest
commandment.
Ephesians 5:1 Be
imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children…
A couple of
areas we really need to work on:
a) Regular
attendance in church
Hebrews 10:25 Let us not give up
meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one
another–and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
1 Corinthians 16:2a On the first day of every week, each one of you should set
aside a sum of money in keeping with his income…
b) Materialism
Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve
two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some
people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves
with many griefs.
Matthew 6:21 For
where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 23:23
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices–mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters
of the law–justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the
latter, without neglecting the former.
II. Reaching Out
Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you
always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 22:39 And
the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 1:12 Yet
to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right
to become children of God…
Jesus Christ, This is it. Today I'm starting a relationship with You. I turn from
living for myself to you. I ask You to forgive me for
the wrong things I've done. Thank You for forgiving me so I can start to feel
closer to You.
I want You to start to show me how to
live. Direct my life. Please take over my life and guide me. I have a lot to learn. Would You please
teach me? Help me to live for you every moment of my life. Amen.
III. Reaching In
1 Peter 3:8 Finally, all of you,
live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as
brothers, be compassionate and humble.
