HOW TO SUSTAIN SPIRITUAL MOMENTUM
November 30, 2003

Hebrews 12:1-3 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

How Do I Sustain Spiritual Momentum?

 1. Find encouragement from those who have GONE BEFORE (vs. 1)
Romans 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

What person of faith and godliness can strengthen my walk? _________________________________

2. Put off that which TRIPS YOU UP or slows you down (vs. 1b)

* Let go of the SINFUL things
* Let go of the UNNECESSARY things

In order to finish well, I need to let go of ____________________

3. HANG IN THERE until you cross the finish line (vs. 1c)
1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

4. Keep a SINGLE-MINDED focus (vs. 2a)
Philippians 3:8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.

2 Tim. 2:3-4 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs--he wants to please his commanding officer."

5. Endure the suffering to see the PAYOFF (vs. 2c-3)
Matthew 25:21 His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!

Romans 3:23 …for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

A prayer to start a new relationship with Christ:
Jesus, thank you for giving your life for me.  As much as I know how, I want to give my life back to you. I want to know you and the purposes for which I was created. I turn to you and ask you to be the leader of my life. Please forgive me for the wrongs I have done against you. I ask you, Jesus Christ, to start changing me from the inside out beginning right now. In your name I pray, Amen.
